About ERCP

The San Diego Institute for pancreato-biliary diseases was established in July 1992. Here
at the center, we manage the most complex diseases of the Biliary tract and pancreas.
We see an average of 2,000 patients per year, and we perform an average of 400 therapeutic
endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographies per year. The most common indication
for ERCP's at our center is for removal of common bile duct stones and for placement of
biliary endoprosthesis (stents) for malignant biliary obstruction. Our complication rate has
remained very low compared to the national average, being less than 1%, and our success
rate with one procedure is 96% and with two procedures is 98%.

If you are a physician who wishes to refer a patient to us or if you are a patient, you may
schedule an appointment or contact Dr. Mikhail directly by contacting on the left-hand side
of this page.

Sincerely,
Iman I. Mikhail, M.D.
